Local Workers from Gili Trawangan Support the Relief Efforts after Lombok Earthquakes and Karola Takes Photos (took) there. An initial earthquake on the 29th of July in Lombok and the Gili Islands, a 6.4 magnitutde, was the trigger of many more to follow. One week later on the 5th of August, a 6.9 magnitude hit with over 300 aftershocks, many of which were 5.0 or greater.
The locals (our friends) have been left without homes, have lost family and friends, and are left with limited resources like medicines, food, water, shelter, clothes and more. They need our help fast and we want to be able to do as much as we can to provide aide.
The Gili Relief Group is a task force put together by the people who were living and working on Gili Trawangan, one of the islands affected by the earthquakes. We have 50+ people from over 10 businesses from the island who are working to raise funds in order to get the supplies that the local people need to stay safe and eventually rebuild. Our biggest group is in Bali with a few people in Lombok helping with distribution.
“We’re doing the best we can as a community to support the friends and family we have over in Lombok,” says Seth Emerick, owner of Tir Na Nog Irish Bar on Gili Trawangan and leader of the Gili Relief Group in Bali. “Any support that we can get from around the world would be appreciated.”
